1. Put Yourself Out There: I remember being on the bus to my first AIT/MIT experience on the bus, knowing no one. My roommate, who was not going up for AIT/MIT, was on the phone, telling me it was all going to be okay and she would see me tomorrow. I was terrified. I got off the bus and saw another girl standing alone. I introduced myself, and we hung out the whole day and night. Both of us were in the same roommate situation, so we roomed for the first night and talked all night. After that, I had the confidence to talk to more people, and I made so many regional friends.

2. Take The Stairs: The elevators are beyond crowded, and you will never get to your rooms. Save yourself 20 minutes and take the stairs if possible.

3. Don’t Limit Yourself To Just Your Grade: BBYO is a place where an 8th grader and senior can be best friends with no shame. I talked to some of the best people who ended up being so much older than me at my first convention.

4. Bring Snacks With Protein: As much as spooey and chips are delicious, bring food that will fill you up. You never know how the hotel food will be, and you need to be prepared. It's a long weekend, and you will be cranky without food.

5. Learn The Spirit Cheers: They are so fun and a great way to feel connected to your sibling BBGS.

Lindsay is a BBG from Long Island, NY and loves volleyball.
