Connection does not begin with the programs and events. It begins with the second a teen feels like they truly belong. BBYO connects teens not accidently, but with true intention. BBYO is more than a Jewish youth organization; it is a community that welcomes teens to feel seen, heard, and welcomed. It gives teens a voice, and a chance to explore their Jewish identity. Through amazing opportunities, shared experiences, meaningful traditions, and more, BBYO creates spaces that foster connection, and helps teens become passionate about their identity. BBYO also creates bonds through shared Jewish traditions and values, and invites teens to further explore what being Jewish means to them.

Sophia LeBauer, an involved Jewish teen here in Greensboro says, “Joining BBYO has been the best decision of my life. While I was nervous at first, I have now met girls that will support me no matter what and will always make me smile. BBYO has brought me a sense of belonging in the Jewish community, and also has encouraged me to reconnect with my Judaism. Having this amazing community has helped me create a positive relationship with my religion, and given me a chance to grow as a person.” Sophia perfectly captures the relationship that every teen has built with BBYO. BBYO has also deepened engagement by fostering relationships from all over the world. Summer programs, conventions, leadership positions, and international experiences bring together teens from diverse backgrounds, turning brief interactions into lifelong friendships.

The girls chapter in Greensboro, Etta Spier BBG, has turned a Jewish youth group into a sisterhood, one big family. The girls have been brought together from different schools, different backgrounds, and have created a sense of belonging for one another. Through programs that the wonderful Etta Spier board intensely planned and many learning and growing opportunities, the heart of a strong Jewish community is built. That's the beautiful thing about BBYO, teens do more than just participate, but they grow, lead, and find a community that feels like home.

Mira Luft is a BBG from Etta Spier BBG #372 in Eastern Region: North Carolina Council and is currently serving as chapter N'siah.
