Looking back at the journey of BBYO Germany, it’s almost hard to believe how far we’ve come in such a short time. My own personal story with BBYO Germany began in 2022, when I became a Chapter Leader. At that moment, I had no idea that I was stepping into something that would grow into one of the most defining experiences of my life. What started as a small, passionate group of Jewish teens in Germany has blossomed into a vibrant, influential part of the global BBYO community. Looking back now, this journey was nothing short of incredible.
The story of BBYO Germany isn't just about events or milestones—it's about a community coming together, one step at a time, to build something meaningful. It's about that moment when you realize you're part of something bigger than yourself. I think one of the defining moments was when our first German delegation attended the International Convention (IC) in 2020. I wasn't there, but I've heard the stories of how the team felt—nervous but electrified by the idea that Germany could one day be a key player in the international BBYO family. That experience sparked something in all of us.
By 2021, things were starting to take shape. I watched as the first Regional Presidents and Chapter Leaders were elected. It was a pivotal moment because it marked the beginning of BBYO Germany’s transition from a small group to a more structured, organized movement. We were no longer just a handful of passionate individuals—we were leaders who would help guide this community forward.
In the year that followed, I saw the community grow stronger as we elected our first regional board. This wasn’t just an administrative milestone—it was a statement that BBYO Germany was serious about its future. The sense of community that formed through those early leadership decisions was undeniable, and it became clear that our commitment to leadership, growth, and connection was shaping something truly special.
One of the most unforgettable moments for me was when BBYO Germany presented the Dugo Event at the International Convention on February Execs in 2023. I wasn’t just witnessing the work of a few individuals—it was clear that the collective effort and dedication of the entire community were on display. It was our chance to show the world what we were about, and it was an incredibly proud moment to be part of that. Then, when Joelle was elected to the International Board, it felt like all the hard work she and our community put in had led to this incredible achievement. Joelle’s success wasn’t just her own—it was a success for all of us in BBYO Germany, and a recognition of the potential we have as a region.
As 2024 rolled around, it felt like everything was falling into place. Joelle’s appointment as the first non-American N’siah was a game-changer. It was a clear signal that BBYO Germany had truly arrived on the international stage. Alongside this, we celebrated our first-ever GLTI for Germany and held our first Regional Convention. These were big moments, but they also marked a shift—BBYO Germany was no longer just participating in the global BBYO movement; we were living it.
Looking at everything that has happened so far, it’s easy to feel an overwhelming sense of pride. From those early days in 2022 to where we are now, the growth of BBYO Germany has been nothing short of remarkable. For me, being part of this journey has been an honor. I’ve had the chance to witness incredible leadership, both from the individuals around me and from the community as a whole.
BBYO Germany has come a long way, and the future looks brighter than ever. We’ve created something meaningful, something that will continue to grow and inspire Jewish youth for years to come. And for me, the most exciting part is that we’re just getting started. The potential ahead is endless, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.
Thank you, BBYO Germany, for being my home, my growth, and my inspiration.
With love and gratitude,
Lea :)
